Adam C. Brown

IT Manager & Project Manager — Greenville, SC

Projects that
actually
went live.

Infrastructure, cloud, ERP, and security — scoped, budgeted, and delivered. I'm Adam Brown. I spent 25 years in enterprise IT, most recently as Director of IT at Rayonier, and I'm looking for an IT manager or project manager role.

Open to work

What I'm looking for.

A role where I'm close to the systems and the team — owning delivery rather than reporting on it. Full-time or contract, Greenville–Spartanburg area or remote.

  • PMI and Agile, with the risk registers and cutover plans to match
  • Annual SOX audits across all IT systems with no material findings

Best fit is a team small enough that the manager is still in the work — five to twenty-five people, a mixed estate of cloud and on-prem, and more projects in the queue than people to run them.

Get in touch

The approach

Projects rarely fail on the technology. They fail on the fifty small decisions nobody wrote down — who owns the data, what happens to the exceptions, who answers the phone the morning after go-live.

Which is why the risk register and the cutover plan get written before the kickoff deck.

Capabilities

What I've owned.

Not advised on from a distance — scoped, staffed, budgeted, and carried through go-live.

Delivery

IT project & program delivery

Scoping, estimating, resource planning, risk registers, vendor coordination, cutover, and the support window afterward. PMI or Agile, whichever the work calls for. Multiple concurrent projects delivered on time and within budget as a project manager at Rayonier.

Cloud

Infrastructure, cloud & networks

AWS and Google Cloud, data center operations, disaster recovery, and wide-area networking. Ran the on-prem to AWS migration and the MPLS to DMVPN replacement — $700K a year out of the budget between them.

Systems

ERP & business systems

Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Trimble Forestry GIS. Requirements through data conversion, control design, training, and turnover to support. Replaced a legacy GL with Dynamics 365; consolidated five revenue systems into one.

Security

Security, compliance & risk

NIST-aligned assessment, SOX IT general controls, cyber insurance renewals, and the customer security questionnaires nobody wants to own. Annual SOX audits with no material findings.

Team

IT operations & team leadership

Service desk, procurement, vendor management, and the people who run them — hiring, coaching, and keeping a small team from drowning in tickets. Teams of 10 to 22 supporting 450+ users across the U.S. and New Zealand.

Also: enterprise AI rollout and training (Google Gemini, company-wide), M&A and carve-out IT integration, and business analysis.

Track record

Twenty-five years, in numbers.

Nearly all of it at Rayonier, a global timber REIT — from applications developer in 2000 to Director of IT in 2025.

$700K+in annual infrastructure savings delivered
$20M+revenue platform modernized and moved online
$10Mannual IT budget and project portfolio managed
22person IT department led across two countries
450+users supported across the U.S. and New Zealand
0material findings across annual SOX audits

Selected work

Six projects, start to finish.

Each of these I owned end to end — vendor selection and scoping through go-live and turnover to support.

Cloud

On-prem to AWS

Led vendor selection, migration planning, and cutover for the move off physical infrastructure — $300K+ a year saved, with better scalability, redundancy, and disaster recovery.

Network

MPLS to DMVPN

Re-architected the wide-area network across every site, cutting networking costs by $400K+ annually with no unplanned downtime during the transition.

Finance systems

Dynamics 365 GL

Managed the legacy general-ledger replacement: requirements, vendor management, data conversion, SOX control design, and end-user training.

Digital revenue

Salesforce e-commerce

Delivered a Salesforce-based platform supporting a $20M+ revenue line, from requirements through launch and handoff to support.

AI

Enterprise Gemini rollout

Deployed Google Gemini company-wide, including usage policy and hands-on training for every employee.

M&A

Acquisition & spin-off

Ran IT integration for a 55-employee acquisition and the IT separation work through a corporate spin-off, keeping both businesses running throughout.

Most of the jobs on an IT org chart.

I started at Rayonier in 2000 as an applications developer, writing systems for the forestry, real estate, and finance teams. I left in 2025 as Director of IT. In between I was a project manager, a business relationship manager, and an operations manager — which means I've done most of the jobs on an IT org chart, and I know which ones I actually like.

The consistent thread is translation: turning what the business says it needs into something that can be scoped, costed, built, and supported. That's what I was doing bridging IT and the forestry and real-estate units, consolidating five revenue systems into one, and steering the company through cloud, ERP, and AI transitions without losing people along the way.

Since leaving I've run ABC and Associates — cloud migrations, security assessments, and system selections for small and mid-size clients. Good work, and a useful reminder of which part I actually care about: a team, a plan, and something running in production at the end of it.
